The owner of the Orbit team Rodger Hawley from Florida was back in the Sarthe after 2002 and 2003 associated with British American Motorsport. It was helped by Porsche as witnessed by the presence of works drivers Marc Lieb and Mike Rockenfeller teamed up with Leo Hindery an Orbit Racing regular right from the start. Hindery was involved in the TV rights of the New York Yankees baseball team and owner of Yes Network which expalin the livery. While the White Lightning GT3 was securing pole in the GT class, Orbit Racing and Freisinger was battling for the next positions. And there was only 32/100secs between the two cars. |
After Lieb and Rockenfeller had managed to bring the car up to 2nd place in the GT class, Hindery went off in the Ford chicane. He had to come in for repairs, which dropped the Orbit Racing down to 7th place and 29th overall. The Orbit Racing Porsche had never been more than a lap behind the White Lightning Porsche which it passed during the 14th hour to go into 2nd place in the GT class. It stayed there until 08h00 when the gearbox broke. The team decided it was not worth repairing as the car's chances of a good result had been dashed so they pulled the team out of the competition after 223 laps. |
