JMB Racing Ferrari 360 Modena by ProSlot/MTR32 |
Jean-Michel Bouresche had entered a single F360 and was back to try and make up for his lacklustre performance in 2002 and 2003 after carrying off the Fia-GT title in 2001. He has been linked to ferrari for a long time as his 333 SP prototypes won the FiA Sportscar Championship in 1998, 1999 and 2000. The driver line-up consisted of Brazilian Jamie Melo, winner of the Euro F3000 Championship in 2003, making his Le Mans debut plus Stéphane Daoudi. The pair finished second in LM GT at Monza in May and third man was Jean-René de Fournoux who had raced at le Mans twice for the WR team. |
Michelotto, the tuner of Ferrari 360 Modena, was more than happy with the speed of Jean- Michel Bouresche's entry. It was always among the leading Porsches and there was no reason why it could not improve on its 5th place in the category once Jaime Melo had got to know the circuit. Both Stéphane Daoudi and Jean René de Fournoux were quick and reliable drivers so things looked rosy for June. At practice in June the 360 Modena was around 10 secs down on the quickest Porsches. Nut on the last day of practice the JMB Ferrari gave the horde of Porsches something to worry about in the LM GT class. Sascha Maassen was fastest but the black 360 Modena was only |
1,130 secs behind. Debutant Jaime Melo's 4m 08,484s (33rd position on the grid) was much quicker than his April best and way ahead of Babini's 4m 17,138s in the official training in 2003. Daoudi was not far behind without using soft rubber. In the LM GT class the Porsche-Ferrari battle fizzled out right from the start. The Italian make was already outnumbered and the quickest 360 Modena lost two laps when the race got under way. Jaime Melo ran into gearbox selection problems during the formation lap in the JMB entry ridding Porsche of their most dangerous adversary. For Daoudi and de Fournoux it was better that this accident happened early on rather than in the last lap as in 2002 when they lost victory in the LM P675 class. Daoudi, de Fournoux and Melo made a sterling comeback and were within striking distance of the Top 3 in LM GT. Then trouble struck! Just after 23h00 the Ferrari Modena had a slight "off" and then the starter played up dropping it from 20th to 31st place overall and 11th in the class. In the middle of the 11th hour the transmission went. Taking into account the time necessary to change it and the fact that any chance of harrying the Porsches was now lost, the Monaco-based team decided to throw ion the towel. |
