Two more decades of Formula One. |
By Holger Thor Nielsen First of all I must admit that any Formula One car younger than 1980 is a bit too modern for me. But then came the announcement of the soon to be Scalextric release of the "Monaco 1992" set, and I was lost. But I will try hard to limit my "modern" collection to selected cars with a high degree of details and correctness. These two decades were dominated by a line of duels fought out between some of the finest race drivers ever. - Allan Jones vs. Nelson Piquet - Gilles Villeneuve vs. Didier Pironi - Niki Lauda vs. Alain Prost - Alain Prost vs. Ayrton Senna - Nigel Mansell vs. everybody - Michael Schumacher vs. Damon Hill - Mika Häkkinen vs. Michael Schumacher Luckily this was an era where the deadly accidents grew fever and fever, but still many young stars and talents sadly lost their lives on the tracks. Gilles Villeneuve, Elio de Angelis, Stefan Bellof and Ayrton Senna just to mention a few and perhaps the most famous of them. Maybe the most magnificent season of them all was 1982, when the sixteen races were shared by eleven different race winners, nobody winning more than two races this year. Sadly no car has yet been released from that season. But as you know - never give up hope! For each year I will include a short introduction to how the particular season went for each of the drivers and sum up number of wins, points and places in the end classification. As more and more Formula One cars from these seasons will be released, it is my intention to update these pages on a regular basis. As always any correction, addition, remark or comment from you would be much appreciated. Enjoy! |
